Clients are predominantly insurers, which are domiciled in the United States and work with the Group for ceding part of their risks to reinsurance companies.

The advantage of underwriting Group or associated Group business is the ability to fine tune terms and conditions, to react immediately in the event of problems and to take mitigating measures as necessary.

Builders Direct : following on Builders Re’s conservative and prudent underwriting philosophy, Builders Direct intends to apply the same clear distinction between associated Group risks and unrelated third party non-group business. Concerning its clients, Builders Direct favours Mutuals, Associations or independent intermediaries specialised underwriting agencies, which focus on a high level risk management. The goal is to develop with such clients a long term and stable partnership in a sustainable business framework.

Builders Re & Builders Direct underwrite business with third party entities which have well-developed risk management strategies supported at the highest level of their corporate hierarchy. These entities have to demonstrate full understanding of the consequences of managing and retaining their own risk and put in place suitable mechanisms to optimize outcomes. Ultimately, risks will be selected which are well aligned with the corporate risk management strategy of Builders Group.
